Artist, Heidi Lee, taught a webinar on how to pain an abstract landscape on April 25th. For those of you who want to get that creative energy flowing, follow the directions she gave to us down below!

​Abstract Landscape Painting

1. Determine your horizon line
2. Choose your sky color (for instance, Titanium White with a touch of Ultramarine Blue)
3. Fill in your sky
4. While drying, determine what you want for your foreground (such as a swamp, green pastures, river, etc.)
5. Paint the base coat for your foreground
6. Add in any trees or anything along the horizon line
7. Remember to keep things simple as this painting is meant to he partially abstract rather than hyper realistic
8. Go back to the sky and add some color
9. Glaze a thin coat of warm tones(such as yellow ocher) into various spots in the sky
10. Blend carefully in circles so that there is an appearance of color gradation
11. Add some shadow to the sky using Burnt Umber and Ultramarine Blue combined in small amounts
12. Blend into the sky as you did with the warm tones
13. Go back to the foreground and add another layer of color to your lower area
14. Add more shadow to the horizon line
15. Go back to the sky and add more Ultramarine Blue with Titanium White glaze
16. Repeat the process of going back and forth between the sky and foreground and horizon line several times
17. Add a focal point to the composition (such as a moon, bird flying in the sky, a group of highlighted trees, etc.)
18. Add finishing touches to your piece
19. Sign and date (if you wish)
